[Youngdong] On March 18, Golden Year 4 (2007), while initiates were enjoying a one-day retreat, some children from QuanYin families experienced organic farming in a yard of Youngdong Center.

After smoothing out the soil and choosing their favorite seeds, the children planted them along with some organic fertilizer. Buckwheat seeds were also spread in the nearby field. It is expected that about one month later some of the vegetables will be ready to eat.

A brother, who is a government-certified organic farmer, explained why it was important that we eat organically grown food. The earth has numerous microbes. If we protect and help them, they will be grateful to us and give much nutrition to the vegetables. Therefore vegetables become healthier and free from chemicals that can be harmful to our body, and vegetable consumers will also become healthy. The microbes are invisible but very precious. This is the environmental-friendly way of farming. Children were also told that if they plant their seeds with love, more vegetables will grow.
