Alternative Way
to Attend Helpless Animals
By sister-initiate Alejandra Panella,
Mendoza, Argentina (Originally in Spanish)
[Mendoza] On March 4, 2006, Mendoza Animal Protection Center
(MAPC) carried out the First Animal Rights Meeting in Mendoza City, Argentina.
The ideal of this non-governmental, non-profit organization is to defend
and help sentient beings. Their goals are to help and give temporary shelter
to animals that have been thrown unprotected into the streets, seek a
home for them, make the council responsible for the prevention of diseases,
systematic sterilization, and vaccination of pets, and to advance the
awareness of animal rights.
During the lecture given by three young women, all vegetarians,
two videotapes were shown. The first revealed sad cruel images of the
hideous method councils use to control the street animal population: killing
them with carbon monoxide gas. On the other hand, the second video, showed
how the Rosario Council, in the Santa Fe province and the Lomas de Zamora
and Almirante Brown Councils, both in the Buenos Aires province, managed
to change the animals’ destiny by modifying the way they think and
act. With the same resources they used to kill them, they now tend to
the animals with love and responsibility, improving the facilities for
the pets, and using mobile operating theaters where they offer free vaccination,
sterilization, disease prevention, and general care of the pets. We could
see the people coming with their pets and waiting patiently for their
turn, while their pets happily played with their peers on the grass.
The images of the cruelty and killing touched the hearts of
the audience, including two people who worked with dogs in zoo-therapy,
making them shed tears. Then, the attendees were invited to propose new
ideas to be put into action in Mendoza. So great was their eagerness to
participate that they began talking at the same time. As a result of the
discussion, it was proposed to give talks at schools, inform the public
on the alternatives to killing animals, and encourage each member to participate
with their neighbors and the council to generate respect and awareness
of animal rights. Further ideas included proposing bills to the authorities
to stop euthanasia and have an ethical control of the animal population,
asking vets, members of the council, and medical and veterinary students
not to resort to euthanasia and/or use animals for research, and to also
give conferences on vegetarianism.

courageous young women do not fear risking their lives rescuing dogs from
cages filled with the hot gas. (*)
They received the Alternative Living flyers with joy, and were interested
in knowing more about Master. Many of the ideas that were proposed have
been in my mind for quite a long time and it was really positive and encouraging
to find this group of brothers and sisters determined to protect the lives
of our helpless friends. Thank You, Master, for showing me this powerful
example of Your Love in action!

Note: Master has since rewarded these courageous women with a plaque and
US$10,000 in order to support their future work.

What can human beings do to deal with repeated
outbreaks of epidemic diseases? To address this question and save
the lives of countless animals, Master has personally compiled a
concise article complete with colorful illustrations entitled
“Alternative Living”, providing basic information about vegetarian
alternatives to the meat-based diet and a list of the “Vegetarian
and Vegan Elite of the World.”
