Accompanying God’s Children through their Growth

The Outstanding Younger Generation of

Quan Yin Practitioners

Interviewed and reported by Taoyuan News Group,
Formosa(Originally in Chinese)

Eleven-year-old sister-initiate Xing-ru Jian is an outstanding student in the elementary school of Taoyuan County. Amiable in disposition and friendly to people, she has been selected as a model student since grade one. All the teachers and students who have had contact with her have been endeared by her unique character, friendly smile, and hardworking spirit. Competent in both academic studies and sports activities, she has won many awards and trophies.

The most amazing fact is that, having been a vegetarian since fetus stage,  Xing-ru has very dynamic athletic potential and great stamina beneath her refined appearance. Many times, she scored superb results when representing her school in inter-school competitions. For instance, she was first in the 100-meter sprint at the 2006 Taoyuan County Secondary and Elementary Schools Joint Track and Field Selection Competition. In 2004, she participated in the Pacific Metropolitan Cup Swimming Competition and won as champion of the 20-meter breaststroke event. These accomplishments completely shatter the general notion that a vegetarian diet cannot provide sufficient nutrition.

After transferring from the Wen Hua Elementary School to the Fu Dan Elementary School, in less than a year Xing-ru had again become the focus of attention; she was selected as one of the model children of Ping Zhen City, and even was commended by the Mayor.

Upon hearing that Xing-ru had just won third prize in an English story-telling competition at her school, we invited her to share some of her stories with us, which she graciously agreed to right away. In less than a minute, she was entirely immersed in the story-telling and had impressed us with her articulate and confident tone of voice, a further affirmation of the benefit of meditation and spiritual practice in daily life. Xing-ru told us: “Meditation helps me to focus better; very soon I become unaware of disturbances from the surroundings. Besides, I also meditate when I am ill and after a while I feel better. When I have trouble, I also meditate and then find someone trustworthy (pointing to her parents) to talk to; then I am fine.”

The following are interviews conducted with Xing-ru, her family, teachers and classmates.

☆Bringing Up Children

We asked Xing-ru’s parents about their direction in bringing up their children.

Xing-ru’s dad: We hope that they will grow up in happiness, and from the happiness they will find their interest, and from their interest learn the means for earning a living.

Xing-ru’s mom (sister-initiate Chen) remarked lightly: I feel fortunate that both Xing-ru and her elder brother received half initiation when they were six years old. Whenever they were in trouble, they could just think of Master and go to meditate. We simply use meditation and music to help them in growing up, and we communicate with them according to Master’s teachings. It is very easy!

In a short comment that amply expressed her trust, Xing-ru said: Mom and dad are very consistent in their words and actions. They are very good role models and very influential parents!

☆ Xing-ru, in the Eyes of Her Family Members

Elder brother: My sister is the little housekeeper at home. Occasionally when dad comes home very late, she reminds him to come home earlier. She also reminds me to do my homework and extracurricular reading; she reminds mom to hang out the washed clothes and to prepare the meals, and so on. I admire her sports talents and her amiable attitude towards people.

Dad: Xing-ru is very sociable and has many friends. She does many things spontaneously.

Mom: Xing-ru is a good helper, a joker, and a mediator at home. She helps me to do the house chores every day, such as hanging clothes, disposing of the garbage, and cleaning the washroom. She takes initiative and is very diligent with respect to meditation. Except when she is very exhausted, she will always go to meditate without being told.

☆Xing-ru, in the Eyes of Her Schoolmates

Xing-ru (second from right) and her good friends.

Classmate, Ku: Xing-ru is very welcomed by classmates, and everyone has very good impressions of her. She excels in all aspects, including moral, intelligence, sports, sociability, and aesthetics. When I tell her my troubles, she gives me advice and keeps the secret. She is a very worthy friend.

Classmate, Xu: Xing-ru volunteers to help me with my studies, and spends a lot of time to teach me until I understand thoroughly. I talk to her when I have problems, and she tries her best to help. She is a trustworthy, good friend.

Classmate, Dai: Some classmates often gossip about other people, but Xing-ru would never do this! Sometimes, when she has made some minor error in art class, she insists: “No! This is not acceptable.” She will do it again and again until it is perfect.

☆ Xing-ru, in the Eyes of Her Teachers

Art teacher, Pei-zhen Yang: Xing-ru is a very tidy person. Her mind is very clear and is not disturbed by undesirable things. She is very concentrated in class, does not show any signs of mental exhaustion and seems to have unlimited vigor. She can be very lively and also very quiet; she is in good control of herself. I was very amazed when I found out that she is a vegetarian and yet she can run very fast and do a lot of physical exercises in the morning. Another merit is her perseverance. Once she decides to do better and sets the goal, she will spend a lot of time and effort to achieve it. The most extraordinary trait about her is that there seems to be a radiant aura surrounding her when you look at her, which makes one feel very comfortable. It is generated from within, not on the outside.

Homeroom teacher, Zheng-fen Jian: What impresses me most about Xing-ru is her happiness. She is always smiling and laughing. When you see her, you simply cannot get angry. She knows the art of sharing with others. Whether it is food or another thing, she is always willing to share. In class, she studies seriously. Sometimes, when the teachers forget where they are, they can refer to her notebook and then immediately know where to pick up again. But she does not neglect other things just because she is too focused on studies. One valuable trait is that when she makes a mistake and is corrected, she reviews and will come back to tell me: “Madam! I understand now.” Observing her serious attitude in study and her kindness towards people, I feel that I ought to treat the students with more love and care!

Music teacher, Fang-ling Liu: A very tranquil inner disposition in Xing-ru makes her stand out from other people. Perhaps other students also have their merits, but Xing-ru is very natural, not pretending and not arrogant. These merits could only come from her family and religious faith. I feel that this is God’s grace in her! I hope that she can further develop herself to share the grace with more people and influence those around her.

☆ Master, in the Eyes of Xing-ru

When we switched the topic of our conversation to Master, Xing-ru immediately said with delight: “I really love Master. She is very beautiful and makes people feel very comfortable. Each time when I see Master sacrificing selflessly for other people, I always hope that I can also improve to become better each day. I thank God for giving me everything!”

At the end of the interview, her mom showed us a poem that Xing-ru wrote and dedicated to Master last year, called “Heavenly Kingdom”:

I am walking on the path to the Heavenly Kingdom;
Though it is a very difficult path,
Master Mommy sees me through each obstacle.
Holding Master Mommy’s hand,
Walking on the path paved with gold and diamonds,
I am heading for the Heavenly Kingdom.
Look!
Many Saints are waving to me.
Let us all go to the Heavenly Kingdom!

☆ Conclusion:

Xing-ru is the mediator, the joker, and little housekeeper at home, a role model for her schoolmates, and also someone to remind her teachers of their noble mission. She is like a pristine stream, gently flowing through the hearts of anyone in contact with her, reminding them of the meaning of life. From the above interviews, we realize that the spiritual motive behind Xing-ru’s excellent behavior is closely related to the perfect model that Master has set for the whole world. Under Master’s influence, Xing-ru is eager to catch up and become more perfect each day. In a few months, Xing-ru will turn 12 and she is looking forward to the day of receiving full initiation.
