Coordinating Efforts to Share
the Message of Alternative Living

By Austin Center and San Antonio Center, Texas, USA (Originally in English)

Like initiates around the world, Austin and San Antonio Center initiates have been busily distributing the Alternative Living message during the last few months. It is very clear that this project is not just for a week or a month, but is a long-term noble work that will require persistent efforts. We have learned many good strategies from initiates around the world and have also developed the following ideas to ensure the best outcomes.

1. Coordinate efforts to distribute the Alternative Living flyers: After distribution of flyers, initiates report via email the places and dates of distribution and the projected areas of future distribution to avoid duplication of efforts.

2. Coordinate with local authorities

Our initiates established a good relationship with San Antonio police officers during the Katrina relief activities. To support our effort to distribute the Alternative Living flyers, the police chief wrote a note to our initiates approving our activities in the area. With the support of the police, our distribution went very smoothly.

3. Long term contract with local publications

We have been placing the Alternative Living message in local community publications. Recently, we signed a year’s contract with a monthly publication.

4. Supply hotels and motels with the Alternative Living flyers along with information about local vegetarian restaurants.

Austin is a busy city and thousands of visitors arrive daily. Many stay in hotels and motels and require dining information. We printed the Alternative Living flyer and included local vegetarian restaurant information and then distributed the flyers to local hotels and motels. The managers liked the flyers and invited us to supply them on a regular basis.
