The Eclectic is a new energy-autonomous vehicle developed by Venturi Automobiles. The difference between the Eclectic and traditional electric cars is that it has a built-in solar-paneled roof as well as built-in wind turbines. These methods of charging the battery allow the car to recharge in two other ways besides plugging into an electrical socket. So, when you park it on the roadside on a sunny day, it automatically begins to recharge. Smart, isn't it? The Eclectic has 3 seats, weighs 350 kg (772 lbs), and has a top speed of 50 km/hour (31 miles/hour). The Eclectic uses the latest-generation liquid cooled NiMH (NIV-7) battery which has a capacity about 3000 times larger than a rechargeable AA battery and can also be charged with a standard plug. The lifetime of the battery is a staggering 10 years. Under normal sunshine, the energy that the solar-cell roof generates
in one day allows the car to travel 7 km (4.3 miles); in windy areas,
the wind turbines generate an additional 15 km (9.3 miles). That means
if you drive less than 10 km (6.2 miles) per day, you will never have
to recharge using an electrical plug. How amazing, economical, and super
convenient is that!
