Letter of Appreciation

From the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tuguegarao,
the Philippines

(Originally in English)

On December 16, Golden Year 3 (2006), in recognition of the Catholic Church’s outstanding efforts in providing the much needed support and care for the Aulacese refugees throughout their plight in the Philippines many years ago, a “Shining World Leadership Award” from Supreme Master Ching Hai was presented to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, and two financial contributions were made to the Catholic Church in the Philippines: US$50,000 to St. Paul University of Quezon City, a Catholic education institution, and another US$50,000 to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines. US$15,000 of the US$50,000 contributed to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference was allotted to the retiring bishops to take care of them for having served God and helping people. (Please refer to News #178 for detailed report.)

In May 2007, the 75-year-old Archbishop of Tuguegarao, Diosdado A. Talamayan, D.D. especially wrote an appreciation letter to Supreme Master Ching Hai regarding the US$15,000 contribution for retiring bishops and priests.

In his letter, he stated: “The bishops and priests spend their entire youth and stronger days for the good of the people. It is a very consoling thought that you are among those who believe that these same priests and bishops, once they retire, get old and sickly should be helped to live not necessarily luxurious but comfortable lives…. Your generosity is a beautiful way of binding ties which must unite all men - in the spirit of brotherhood. The retired beneficiaries of your generosity join me in thanking you….”
