In Golden Year 2 (2005), a video of Supreme Master Ching Hai's epoch-marking lecture – “The Real Heroes” - was broadcast throughout the United States on ION Television (formerly PAX Network). Through the media, the Supreme Master reminded the public to recognize the urgent need to adopt a vegetarian lifestyle and be aware of the unfair treatment imposed on our animal friends living with us on this planet. This marked the first of a series of activities by The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association in promoting respect for all life.

Early in Golden Year 3 (2006), fellow practitioners of the Quan Yin family began distributing Alternative Living fliers all over the world, from the Egyptian deserts to the Mongolian prairies, from metropolitan New York to the European countryside. The positive impact of this campaign continues to grow today. The exquisite Alternative Living leaflet featuring vivid illustrations and concise text personally designed by Supreme Master Ching Hai, reminds human beings that they could avert a global crisis and save innumerable animal lives by changing their lifestyle and diet. This divine message also advises people to live a more compassionate life in order to attain a higher level of consciousness, so that our planet Earth can catch up with the evolution of the universe.

At gatherings with fellow initiates in the past few years, Master often shared with us amusing and touching stories about Her interactions with Her adorable pets. Early in Golden Year 4 (2007), Master personally wrote two books — The Dogs in My Life and The Birds in My Life, depicting precious moments shared in Her daily life and heart-to-heart communication with Her canine and feathered companions of different species and character. The launch of the Chinese edition of these two books in Formosa immediately caused a sensation, as the publications reached the top ten on the local Kingstone Bookstore's bestseller list. This good news was complemented by the release of the English edition of The Birds in My Life and its stay at number one on Amazon's bestseller list in “Any Category” for a whole week. A surge of orders from all over the world astounded the publishing circle.

The text in both books was personally written and the photos personally taken by Master. The poetic verses convey the precious message from our animal friends to human readers, leading them into the unknown perceptual world of the animals. These wonderful creatures are very grateful beings who always repay their human caretakers with love. The text depicts their true feelings while the heartwarming photos portray Master Ching Hai's interactions with Her colorful and beautiful birds as well as expressive and darling doggies. Readers would surely respond with a smile and appreciate the pure and unconditional love of our animal friends.

To further call on people around the world to respect all life, Master has kindly given approval for our Publishing Company to produce a series of affordable Birdie Doggie gifts printed with the relevant message. These include T-shirts, notepads and postcards, which will soon be joined by more new items such as multi-purpose shopping bags.
