Dr. Janez Drnovšek, President of the Republic of Slovenia and author of Thoughts on Life and Consciousness, a bestseller in Europe, is influencing millions of people towards more positive and compassionate living. On November 30, Golden Year 4 (2007), the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association Publishing Company launched the Chinese edition of this noble book at Academia Sinica, the most prestigious research institution in Formosa. The launch was also broadcast live on Supreme Master Television. Government representatives, distinguished scholars, guests of different fields and members of the media joined this event for the welcome and discussion of the Chinese edition of Dr. Drnovšek's book. The long list of special guests included legislator Mr. Lin Hong-chi, Mr. Yang Ju-ming Deputy Chief of Department of European Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, chairman of Grace T.H.W. Group, Dr. Wang Wen-yang, and notable academic, at Sinica Academia, Dr. Yu Zong-xian.
Through a live telecast, President Drnovšek warmly greeted the audience in Formosa and affirmed the positive atmosphere of the Formosan people. He told them that the book was not written for himself or about himself but for anyone trying to find meaning and balance in their lives. He hopes that his book can “show people the way to find the inner balance, develop consciousness, and find the true way of life.” As more highly conscious people work to improve the current state of the world, Dr. Drnovšek believes we can avoid the path of destruction caused by the combination of highly developed technology and low consciousness. The cultivation of a higher consciousness can help people find the balance they need and will greatly benefit the world, animals and all of nature.
Shortly after the conference began, Supreme Master Ching Hai made an appearance through a live video link, in support of the author's work. For the audience members, it was a delightful gift having the book's author and Supreme Master Ching Hai at the event simultaneously. On May 31, Golden Year 4 (2007), Supreme Master Ching Hai had presented the “Shining World Leadership Award” to President Drnovšek at the Presidential Palace in the Republic of Slovenia. That inspiring meeting planted the seed of this future collaboration that has now blossomed into the very publication of the Chinese edition of Thoughts on Life and Consciousness. In the videoconference, Supreme Master Ching Hai wished President Drnovšek the best of luck and thanked the participating guests and staff involved in the project. It was especially touching to see the deep respect between Supreme Master Ching Hai and President Janez Drnovšek, who share the same ideal and cherish the spirit of one another's endeavors in bettering the world. Supreme Master Ching Hai introduced the book to the audience and briefly pointed out that it is basically “a book of love” between human beings and other living beings, and the love for God. Master praised President Drnovšek for his connection with the Divine and recommended the audience “to study, reflect, and find the solution to the urgent tasks faced by humankind.” She said that the “real goal in life” is to achieve “a higher consciousness, a nobler vision of finer being” and encouraged us to reach the “divine level of a higher consciousness.” She invited everyone to read the book and grasp its essence. One of the climaxes of the event was Master's sincere invitation of President Drnovšek to visit Formosa. To our great joy, he replied without hesitation that he would be glad to come. The audience reciprocated his friendliness and generosity with an enthusiastic round of applause and cheers.
Many enlightened questions were asked by the guests, and President Drnovšek responded with insightful answers. Legislator Hong-chi Lin praised the President with a proverb by Confucius, “A virtuous man always keeps good company” and said that this event was a perfect example of that. He was also interested in how the president put his ideals into practice. President Drnovšek explained that we must awaken from our repetitious, mechanical patterns of life to a higher consciousness. People usually are not aware that their life is simply a repetition of habits. Therefore, it is important to expand our consciousness, even if we do so gradually. As a public figure for many years, President Drnovšek also has unique insights into the dynamics of politics. He told the audience that people should not count on politicians to make the necessary changes and that the consciousness must be spread through the people. Then, the dynamics of politics will improve and the world will change for the better, because more people with a high consciousness can enter the political field or push the politicians towards change for the benefit of the world.
When the chairman of Grace T.H.W. Group, Dr. Wang Wen-yang asked about the definition of positive and negative energy, President Drnovšek explained that positive thoughts create positive energy. When we are positive, we spread the positive energy to the people around us and help them indirectly. The so-called negative energy is caused by negative emotions, such as anger and stresses in life. These negative emotions accumulate in our minds and generate negative energy. Acquiring positive energy requires the initial step of finding the inner balance, the peace with oneself, to be kind and, of course, to be positive. In addition to caring about people's spirituality and inner peace, President Drnovšek is also very concerned about the environment. When asked about climate change, he expressed his deepest worries and appealed to the powerful countries such as China and America to take necessary measures immediately. If the big countries try to preserve the planet, the work will progress more efficiently. Therefore, the higher consciousness must spread through the people and leaders of these countries for the sake of the world. In fact, in the President's spiritual philosophy, consciousness always comes first. When one gentleman in the audience asked about the gap between science and spirituality, President Drnovšek could not emphasize this point more. For him, science should always work together with spirituality and consciousness. He added, our civilization today is much advanced in technology but not in spirituality and that this is dangerous and possibly destructive therefore higher consciousness must extend into the realms of science. Even though President Drnovšek plans to leave his office at the end of the year, he assured the audience and Master that he will continue to promote the elevation of consciousness and the noble ideas in his book. At the end of the event, Supreme Master Ching Hai and guests made a toast in honor of President Drnovšek and for the success of his book. With much pleasure the President officially announced the release of the Chinese version of Thoughts on Life and Consciousness. For the President, the book launch was a very good start
for future collaboration. Everyone, highly charged with positive energy
after the event, were definitely ready to share this expansive energy
with more people. “Just be positive! Everything else will be
fine!” said President Drnovšek.
