Dog Saves Little Girl
from Speeding Car

By Formosa News Group (Originally in Chinese)

On February 26, Golden Year 5 (2008), an Akita dog named Jilu threw himself at a speeding car to save the life of a six-year-old girl in eastern Formosa.

Jilu usually looked brave and dignified while keeping watch at a car pound run by his human caretaker, Mr. Luo Ji-rong, and was like a member of Mr. Luo’s family. On February 26, just as a fast-moving car was about to run into a little girl who was playing on the road near the car pound, Jilu suddenly dashed out to protect her. The car then hit Jilu before stopping abruptly and swerving to the side of the road.

The little girl escaped unharmed, but unfortunately Jilu was severely injured and became paralyzed. Wanting to help his beloved dog walk again, Mr. Luo took him to veterinary clinics in the eastern, southern and central parts of the country for medical treatment. He refused to give up even if there was only a slim chance of helping Jilu walk, and said that his family would love Jilu no less and continue taking care of him even if he were to stay completely paralyzed.

May God bless brave and selfless Jilu. Your heroic deed will remain forever in the hearts of your human friends!
