Through Master's grace and the help of our Brazil Center,
Association members recently formed a relief team to provide aid
to flood victims in Santa Quitéria and São João do Caru
in the state of Maranhão, northeastern Brazil. The relief team
was greeted at the airport by local TV reporters who interviewed
members about the work of our Association.
From May 23 to 25, the relief team delivered almost seven
tons of food aid along with SOS flyers to the affected people in
Santa Quitéria where they were provided with canoe transport.
On May 27 the relief team went to the municipality of São João
do Caru, where 4,800 affected citizens had not yet received help
from the Civil Defense of Maranhão State. They received assistance
from the Mayor and his wife, and the Secretary of Administration
of City Hall, Sr. Everaldo Artur Franveischetto, who provided them
with food, a place to sleep and transportation to the affected areas.
Three tons of food aid along with SOS flyers were distributed and
members of the relief team were requested to give a talk on global
warming to the Department of Education in São João do Caru.
The flood victims in northern and northeastern Brazil
expressed their gratitude and thanks for the great concern shown
to them by Supreme Master Ching Hai. The relief team members are
grateful for God’s protection, which allowed them to reach
the needy people despite the strong current of the flood. May God
bless all those affected by the floods with a swift recovery.
