Flood Victims Receive the Best Care
By Formosa Relief Team (Originally in Chinese)
Ever since the monsoon season began in India this year, continuous floods have caused severe disasters, leaving millions of people homeless. On learning about the situation, Supreme Master Ching Hai twice dispatched our Association members to India to render assistance. In total, She has contributed US$35,000 for the purchase of emergency relief supplies. On August 30, fellow initiates arrived in Patna, the capital of Bihar. With the help of the local Red Cross, they learnt that Saharsa was in urgent need, so 500 packets of relief materials, which included clothes, mosquito nets, bed sheets, blankets, tents and household utensils were prepared and distributed to the victims in addition to medications for infectious diseases plus enough food to last about six days for a four-member household. The message that going veg could save the Earth in the SOS Climate Change and Alternative Living flyers that were given to inform the people about global warming was warmly received. Mr. Carnal V.K. Singh, a local Red Cross official helping with the work, expressed gratitude to Supreme Master Ching Hai for sending the team at this critical time, bringing love and timely relief to the affected area. He sincerely said: “We pray to God that you are successful in your mission of making this world vegetarian, and saving this world from global warming.” In mid-September, severe floods devastated northern India. More than ten million people lost their homes in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Orissa. Due to Master’s deep concern, a Formosa Relief Team went to assist the Indian people on September 25. Upon arrival in Bhubaneshwar, the capital of Orissa, they first visited the local Red Cross for a briefing and requested their assistance in purchasing and delivering the materials to the affected areas.
The following day, our relief team reached the severely stricken Karabara to distribute packages containing rice, sugar, salt, biscuits, a water purifying agent, medicine and food for six days for one person. More than 2,700 people received the relief provisions. On September 27 and 28, in Kanas and Cuttack, one thousand relief packages, clothes and shawls were distributed to the victims in each of these areas. Upon receiving the supplies and the SOS Climate Change flyers, smiles suddenly appeared on the weary faces of the villagers. The team members are very grateful to Master for giving them this opportunity to convey Her love and warmth to the needy flood victims. They sincerely hope that the vegetarian population on this beautiful planet will continue to increase, bringing God’s peace, love and happiness to all sentient beings.
