Helping Piedmont Flood Relief
By Missouri News Group (Originally in English)

After heavy rains on March 17 and 18 in 2008, Piedmont, Missouri experienced its most serious flooding since 1982. Most of the streets in the downtown area were under three feet of water, with over 100 of the town’s 2,000 residents requiring evacuation.

Upon hearing of the disaster, the Missouri Center in Rolla sent a relief team to the affected area on March 19. The initiates visited a shelter located in a hilltop church where they distributed drinking water along with sandwiches and snacks to the flood victims, and also transported additional items to the shelter and distribution center at the local high school. One Red Cross staff member recognized our organization from the yellow jackets the initiates had also worn at the recent tornado relief work in Arkansas, and she and the other volunteers expressed their gratitude for our group’s efforts in various disaster relief activities.

During the relief work, our team also gave SOS flyers to local flood relief workers, and asked a volunteer who happened to be the superintendent of the Piedmont School District to pass Master’s books on to the District’s elementary and middle school libraries. The sister and brother initiates thank God for this special arrangement and for the opportunity to serve others.
