El Tifón Kalmaegi
El 17 de junio del 2008 el tifón Kalmaegi barrió Formosa, llevando lluvia torrencial a las zonas central y sur de la isla. La Maestra estaba muy preocupada e instruyó a los compañeros iniciados que presten ayuda a las víctimas. Luego de recibir las instrucciones de la Maestra, los compañeros iniciados de Kaohsiung inspeccionaron de inmediato las áreas afectadas y las necesidades de la población.

En la madrugada del 28 de julio, otro tifón, el Fung Wong, golpeó el sur de Formosa y trajo fuerte lluvia. En el pueblito de Laonong, se destruyó un puente provisional de bambú, que los habitantes locales habían reconstruído después del tifón Kalmaegi. Luego de recibir instrucciones de la Maestra, miembros de nuestro Centro de Kaohsiung enviaron el 29 de julio a un equipo de inspección que recogió información del jefe del pueblito y entonces entregaron esa misma noche provisiones de emergencia al Centro de Actividades de la Comunidad de esa localidad.

Typhoon Kalmaegi

On June 17, 2008, typhoon Kalmaegi swept across Formosa, bringing torrential rain to the central and southern parts of the island. In the southern county of Kaohsiung, the levees and roads along the Laonong River collapsed, blocking traffic routes. In Dongan Village, the river water level rose rapidly, flooding homes and forcing many people to evacuate to a temple up in the mountains.

Master was very concerned and instructed fellow initiates to render relief to the victims. Upon receiving Master’s instruction, fellow initiates from Kaohsiung immediately surveyed the affected areas and the needs of the people. They quickly prepared and delivered emergency provisions and cash to the temple. It was already midnight when they arrived and the people had already gone to sleep. Therefore, a temple manager received the relief materials on their behalf. They also left their contact details so that the temple could contact them if any further materials or relief assistance was needed.

All the fellow initiates taking part in this relief work deeply felt God’s protection and blessing. They also realized that the disasters caused by global warming are posing threats to humankind and the Earth. Only by returning to a compassionate and peaceful vegetarian lifestyle can our beautiful home be quickly saved.

Tifón Fung Wong

Taoyuan

On the early morning of July 28, another typhoon, Fung Wong, struck Formosa. As it approached, the Taoyuan Rescue Team of The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association had its rubber dinghies and jeeps ready. It established direct contact with the disaster relief centers in Taipei and Taoyuan Counties. Fortunately, the typhoon suddenly picked up speed three hours before it was expected to hit Formosa and passed through quickly. As a result, Taoyuan was not seriously affected.

Kaohsiung

In southern Formosa, it was a completely different story. The typhoon brought heavy rain. In Laonong Village, a temporary bamboo bridge that the local inhabitants had rebuilt after typhoon Kalmaegi was destroyed. As access was cut off, they faced a severe shortage of daily living necessities.

Al recibir las instrucciones de la Maestra el 29 de julio, miembros de nuestro Centro en Kaohsiung enviaron un equipo de inspección para recolectar información del jefe del poblado, y entonces entregaron suministros de ayuda de emergencia al Centro de Actividades Comunitarias esa misma noche. La jefa del poblado de Laonong, Sra. Hsieh Mei-fung, recibió el material de ayuda y prometió hacer que los entreguen a la gente mediante un teleférico improvisado colgado a través del río. De parte de los pobladores, la Sra. Hsieh expresó su profunda gratitud. Estaba muy sorprendida y contenta por la consideración de parte de los miembros de nuestra Asociación, porque habíamos llevado precisamente lo que la gente necesitaba, así como leche en polvo y juguetes para los bebés y niños. Además de transmitir el amor y la preocupación de la Maestra, aprovechamos la oportunidad para recordarle que la dieta vegetariana puede ayudar a mitigar el calentamiento global, y así reducir grandemente los desastres naturales. La Sra. Hsieh prometió difundir este mensaje entre los pobladores y recordarles comer menos carne y más alimentos vegetarianos.
