Fellow
initiates from Hsinchu, Formosa, and the Red Cross in Hsinchu co-organized
a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training class in Chu-Ren elementary
school to encourage people to learn life-saving techniques and to promote
the spirit of "Love in Action". On behalf of the Supreme Master Ching
Hai International Association, fellow initiates from Hsinchu presented
NT$8,000 to the Red Cross to aid it in its charitable activities.
Mr.
Pone, father of a student at Chu-Ren elementary school, recently had
a car accident. Both his legs were amputated. He and his family of six
had been living barely on basic necessities and could not afford to
buy health insurance. The car accident thus put them under immediate
stress and they were badly in need of help.
The principal of Chu-Ren
elementary school wrote to the Supreme Master Ching Hai International
Association seeking financial assistance for Mr. Pone's family. In response,
the Association contributed NT$90,000 to the family when its representatives
paid a visit to them, accompanied by the principal and dean of the school.
Chu-Ren elementary school also allocated a "Fund of Love" for the family,
granted a tuition waiver to Mr. Pone's children and provided nutritious
lunches for them.
In addition, every
month Master has allocated a certain amount of relief funds to be distributed
to poor families in Formosa. With fellow initiates' persistent loving
care and support, the living conditions of these families have improved
and the spiritual aspects of their lives have also been enriched, raising
new hope in their hearts. From the end of February to April 1999, the
expenses related to various "Love in Action" activities in Formosa totaled
NT$545,047.
