In an incredible display of love, the 10-year-old pet elephant named Miss Molly went to her death when she rammed a speeding truck off the road only moments before it would have crushed the life from her beloved 5-year-old master.

“I loved Miss Molly more than anything,” anguished Andy Conway said, bravely holding back tears that welled in his eyes.

“And I know she loved me, too. My daddy said she died because she loved me.” Little Andy lives with his father Malcolm, who operates an animal sanctuary and research center in Queensland, Australia. Miss Molly was an orphaned Indian elephant that came to the center when she was just 7 months old.

Sarah. . . Andy’'s mom. . . "died of leukemia when he was 9 months old,”" Andy’'s dad explained. “Miss Molly just took over. . . became Andy’'s guardian.

“It started right after Sarah died. I wasn’t thinking too clearly then and I had put Andy outside in his playpen to get a little sun and fresh air while I did a few chores in the animal compound. It was about three hours before I remembered that Andy was still out in the sun. I thought I’'d find him burned to a crisp, but he was just fine.

“Miss Molly had busted out of her pen and stood there shading Andy from the sun. From that day on, you’'d have thought Andy was Miss Molly’s own baby.”

As the years passed, the bond between the boy and the elephant became stronger and stronger. Then came the tragic day when little Andy learned the true meaning of love.

“I didn’t hear the truck right away,” Andy said. “When I did, it was almost on top of me. I got real scared.

“Miss Molly ran right at the truck and hit it real hard. I heard a terrible sound and I knew that Miss Molly was hurt real bad. “She hit the truck so hard it flew off the road and didn’t even hit me. But Miss Molly was on the ground and blood was coming from her head.

“I just sat there on the ground, petting her head. I was crying real hard. And Miss Molly just lay there looking up at me. Daddy said she was saying goodbye.

“Then her big eyes closed like she was going to sleep. I think that’s when she went with God. “Daddy said that Miss Molly’s in Heaven with all the other animals now. He said if I’'m real good when I grow up, I’'ll see her again.”

Miss Molly was buried in the compound, in a simple grave that can be clearly seen from Andy’'s bedroom.
